You and Your Heart Lyrics by Jack Johnson
You and Your Heart is the first single off Jack Johnson's fifth studio album, To The Sea.
Jack said the song started off "with this guitar riff that I had around for a while, actually had it on the last record, and we liked it, but we didn't have any words for it yet, nothing came natural, so I didn't use it,"
He also explained where the lyrics came from and what they are getting at:
"And at some point, some of the books I was reading started leading me in a certain direction, kind of like this broken king character. That area you get in sometimes, where you stop trusting your heart and you start thinking too much about logic and this and that. So it's basically about that separation that can happen between the self and the heart and trying to trust your heart again."
You and Your Heart Lyrics:
Watch you when you say
What you are
When you say, when you blame everyone
Broken king
What you change the frame
I’ll watch you when you
Take your aim
Chorus:
But you, and your heart
Should it feel so far apart
You can’t chose what you take
Why you got to, break it, make it feel so hard?
Verse:
Lay there in the streetlight broken glass pieces reflected pieces of the sun
But not the flame
You could
People could be passing by
You what you don’t like because life is so easy, it’s just so easy
Second Chorus:
But you, and your heart
Should it feel so far apart
You can’t chose what you take
Why you got to, break it, make it feel so hard?
Oh you, and your heart
Should it feel so far apart?
You can’t chose what you take
Why you got to, break it, make it feel so hard?
Bridge / Solo thing
You dropped so many lives in the sand
Lost your fingers, nails on you hand
How you gonna scratch it in back there?
You hope that the tide will take our lives away
Take all our lives away
Take all our lives away
Hope the tide could
Hope the tide could
Take our lives away
(Lyrics could to with some tidy up, especially the first verse - any helpers out there?)
